September 7, 2005
busy day

Somehow I managed to get up at 7am today, drink some coffee, and do a bunch of
things.

A year ago I bought little foam R/C ready to fly parkflyer from parkzone,
called the F-27. Today I finally got my shit together and went to fly it.
And much to my relief, I still had it (it being R/C flying skills, heh). Was
quite a bit of fun, and that plane is so light and has so much surface area
that it's really quite entertaining, you can get it moving and then burn off
so much speed nearly instantly. So after my first couple of flights (at a
baseball field in Potrero), I cranked up the control throws and went to
Golden Gate Park, in the wind, and flew it some more. Fun fun yum yum. When
parkzone's 3D flyer comes out, I'm so getting one.

We had a pretty good rehearsal/arranging session today, too. A big difference
from the nearly 4 hour drunken jam on sunday. I have to say, I've found that
after playing a lot in NINJAM, playing in person is so much easier. In many
ways, NINJAM makes for good practice (like training at high altitude, etc).

Electric park fliers are so much fun to fiy. I really like how much electric r/c planes have taken off and how quickly the improvements in battery and motor technology have been coming in. The 3D planes that are out now look pretty awesome.

Hi Mr. Frankel. I had an idea the other night while sitting at the bar. I know it's off topic, but I didn't know how to contact you otherwise.

Here's the path to my idea. I've been contemplating taking a laptop and external drive to my local watering hole for 'Dj' activities during a slow evening of the week. I don't know anything about mixing or being a DJ, I just want to offer my good people more than the miserable jukebox. So far it's a good plan, no? Anyway, I figure the laptop plugs into the bar's sound system but here's the problem: I need a second version of winamp running with separate headphones in order preview the next songs. I had the vision of a small usb jumpdrive which has a stereo plug-in. The small jump drive slide into the usb port on the side of the laptop. The headphones plug into it. It allows the user to run winamp, (or any music player) from the jump drive. Two instances of winamp would allow me to drag songs into the 'live' feed from the usb player. Is there such a thing? I've been looking around but I only see larger mixers and complicated external sound devices. Can you invent this thing?
I know winamp is now run by the AOL fascists, but I think this thing would benefit humanity. What do you think? Colinr@sonic.net
